Executive Update
NHVR Support, Survey and Dry Hire Brochure

Support
As mentioned in my last update, in the absence of a State based Accreditation Regime, BusSA has commited to make a Management System Framework available to support members and other operators enhance their safety systems where needed, associated with the NHVL Chain of Responsibility requirements.

We aim to deliver this supporting Framework in the second half of this year, I will provide further details on this initiative soon.

NHVR Safety Survey
The NHVR have released their current Safety Survey which will be used to gather valuable data and insights into how safety responsibilities are currently being managed across the industry. It will also let us see what has changed and improved over the last two years.

Feedback from the Safety Survey helps to ensure that the NHVR adapts to changing risks and technologies in order to support the heavy vehicle industry through information, education and safety initiatives. Additionally, the survey has questions which will help us to measure the level of understanding of the Chain of Responsibility across the industry, as well as how people prefer to receive safety information from the NHVR.

I encourage you to please complete the survey by the closing date 18 June 2024, via this link Start survey

Dry Hire Brochure
Initial NHVR research has found there are some concerns regarding domestic and international drivers of ‘dry’ hire buses due to their lack of knowledge of their responsibilities if/when driving a hire bus that fall under national heavy vehicle law.

Due to this, the NHVR have created a small brochure in English, Mandarin and Hindi that outlines a driver’s responsibilities (if driving a bus that falls under NHVL). Please see the Dry Hire Brochure here which you can include with the usual information you provide to bus hire drivers.

As always, I encourage you to please contact me with any feedback or queries on these or any other matters impacting your bus and coach business.
