Who We Are

As the voice of the bus and coach industry in South Australia, BusSA represents the interests of members in their relationship with Government. Our members range from small single bus operators through to large urban operators, and operate the majority of route services, school bus services, trunk routes, community services, tours and charters across South Australia. Our aim is to deliver and grow a sustainable bus and coach industry for all South Australians, and we seek to achieve this through building a strong and trusting relationship with government, stakeholders and industry. We will advocate policies that support operators and encourage patronage within the bus industry.

As an incorporated Association, Bus SA is governed by a Board, made up of Operator Members. The Board’s primary function is to represent the industry as a whole by making decisions that affect the sustainability of the sector in South Australia. It oversees the development of strategic direction for the Association, deals with and make decisions relating to policy position, and provides operator specific guidance to the Executive. The Board is lead by a Chair whose role is to support and guide the Board through decision and policy making processes.

The Executive delivers the aims of the Board. This means that, in a practical way, the Executive Director represents the views of the Board as, when and where required. The Executive Director, as delegated to by the Board, forms strong relationships with Government, the Opposition and other stakeholders, such as local government and community groups, to deliver the main aims and messages for the industry.

The current Executive Director, Lauran Huefner, has more than 20 years experience in developing innovative, forward-thinking and sustainable solutions. With extensive management skills, Lauran understands the strategic drivers of business and can implement successful tactics to solve all kinds of challenges. Lauran’s past roles include marketing in international five star hotels; alumni relations, development and fundraising for the University of Adelaide and Flinders University, and chief executive of the South Australian Postgraduate Medical Association (SAPMEA). In previous strategic plans that Lauran has developed and delivered, he: introduced proactive marketing and tendering processes, re-structured financial reporting, up-skilled staff and implemented management software. His skills for growing and nurturing companies make him a vital driver for helping BusSA – and its members – achieve objectives.
